Undoubtedly, you have gone to a big box store at one time or another. The convenience of being able to go one place to get all the things you need for that day, that week, or a particular project is hard to beat. Knowing you can get everything you need in one trip makes it easier to do what you need to do.

Now, we aren’t saying dentistry is the same as getting groceries, school supplies, and something for your car in one place. However, it can ease your mind to know that whatever your oral care needs, you can visit one office for all of them.

That’s what we strive to provide for our patients in and around Charlotte, NC. At McNulty & Dancausse General Dentistry, we offer a wide range of services in a comfortable, relaxing setting.

Maintaining Your Oral Health

The primary goal of every member of our team is to help you and your family have the healthiest mouths possible. It’s important to keep in mind that this is a two-way street, however.

Most people are aware that they should brush their teeth (twice daily, two minutes each time) and floss (every day) to remove bacteria, plaque, and food particles. Most people also know that they should get routine dental cleanings and exams.

In spite of this, more than 90 percent of people will develop cavities, and conservative estimates suggest that 7 in 10 people will develop gum disease at one point or another in their lives.

Professional cleanings — along with services like fluoride treatments and dental sealants — can go a long way toward preventing those problems. Professional exams are how we find those issues in the early stages before they lead to problems that require other services (which we’ll address a little further down this post).

Preventive care also includes protecting your teeth against injuries. If anyone in your family plays sports, they should be wearing a mouthguard whenever they play or practice. We’ll be writing more about mouthguards later this month. For now, know that not wearing one makes an athlete 60 times more likely to suffer a dental injury.

Improving More Than Your Smile

If you’ve ever been to the movies, watched television, or flipped through a celebrity magazine, then you’ve seen them. These are people with seemingly perfect teeth and “Hollywood” smiles.

It’s important for you to know and understand that a vast majority of people with those perfect teeth needed help to get them. And the way you can get your dream smile is with cosmetic dentistry.

Just like some people have long fingers or short legs, our teeth can come in many shapes, sizes, and configurations. Your teeth may be more crooked or crowded than you would like. You could have gaps in your smile that you want to close.

And it may go without saying, that using something every day does affect it. Since you eat and drink daily, you may have signs of wear. You also likely have developed some staining over the years, too.

With our cosmetic services, we can make the changes to your smile that you want to see. Veneers can make your teeth look straighter and evenly spaced. Professional teeth whitening can remove those stains that have taken years or decades to form. You may want something else entirely or a combination of changes.

Regardless, our team is here to help you create the smile of your dreams.

Correcting Problems

Stains on your teeth may be inevitable as we get older, but other problems aren’t as easy to fix with a cosmetic treatment.

Thankfully, we also offer a range of restorative dental services as well. If you have a broken, cracked, or decayed tooth, the issues go beyond just the appearance of your smile. (It’s true that this is part of the concern for many people, but it’s not the only concern with these kinds of problems.)

You want to be able to speak naturally, to eat the foods your love, and to bite and chew your food comfortably. Depending on the extent of the damage to your teeth, you may need a filling or a crown.

Tooth loss is a common concern as well. Believe it or not, most American adults are missing some of their natural teeth. With modern restorative treatments, however, you may never know it.

Crowns, bridges, and dentures look more like natural teeth than ever before. In addition, the development of dental implants has made these replacement teeth function practically as well as the real things.

Managing Dental Anxiety

We also realize that for many people know that they should go to the dentist regularly doesn’t make it any easier to do. Millions of people struggle with dental anxiety and fear of the dentist (another topic we’ll discuss more later this month).

We understand this, which is why we do everything we can to make it easier for you to get the care that you need.

With inhaled sedation, you can feel relaxed and remain pain-free (one of patients’ most common concerns) during your dental visits. We have incorporated advanced technology into our practice as well. This also improves your understanding of your oral health.

But the most important thing is our team. The people who work at our practice truly want you to have the best experience possible when you visit us.

If you are feeling anxious or nervous about routine care or a particular treatment, please let us know. We’ll be happy to answer any questions and to address your concerns.
