Thomas on using dentures to restore his smile and feeling confident again

I didn't have any back teeth. I came in and, of course, I needed some serious work done. I had to have an extraction on the top, which, it was irritating. And Dr. D. went step-by-step to get the fitting—in progress to get the fittings. All of that was comfortable: no pain, no agonizing shots, no fears, and it just went right into the procedure. Before you know it, your visit was over with and you're out the door.

I work at church—at different organizations at church, and I'm very confident. I used to be hesitant about smiling, but I love to smile and I love ... you know, I'm a very friendly person, I think, I know I am. It just—now that I know that I'm confident in my smile, that I'll be ... I won't embarrass myself and I'm not afraid—it took away a lot of fears, gave me a lot of confidence.

They treat right from the get-go with professionalism, friendliness ... make you feel right at home. You know, just a good place to go and I've recommended some of my friends already, even from people at church. Some of my family members that need dental work, I've already gave them Dr. D.’s name and number, of course, and they're going to be future clients of his. Because of my experience, I pass on to my friends.

Christine on fixing a broken filling with a crown and how the staff helps with her anxiety

I've had a lot of large fillings in the past that have been redone several times and I was at a point where I really just didn't have enough tooth structure to withstand one more refill of the same teeth, so therefore, I needed the crown. It was very comfortable the entire time that I was here and I didn't have any pain. I didn't even ... Dr. McNulty is fantastic with giving anesthesia so I didn't even feel the Novocain and I was comfortable the whole time I was here.

Aesthetically, the crown came out really wonderful and my bite is perfect and everything looks great. I would highly recommend Dr. McNulty to anybody looking to get any major work: crowns, bridges, things like that. I worked in the dental field myself previous to having children, but believe it or not, I have anxiety at the dentist, even though I shouldn't, but they make me feel at ease. He'll put you at ease if you just explain to him and articulate what's causing you to have anxiety, and then will take short breaks as well, in between while he's working, if it's a long appointment, and that helps as well.

Joyce on why she loves coming to Dr. Dancausse

When I first started coming to Dr. D., I had some problems with my partials and I needed to have some replacement work. I've never been one for the dentist, I've always been afraid and I always required that nitrous oxide—I think that's what you call it. Dr. D. and Sharon, they wanted me to feel comfortable without it but it was hard for me because of the fear. Well, now I go in there, I don't have to have anything. They've always made me feel like I was the only patient, special patient, but I think what I have enjoyed more than anything is their mannerism. They're both—they work good together and Dr. D. is just a nice person and Sharon is the perfect assistant for him.

I had a really bad time when I had my wisdom teeth pulled when I was younger, and I was so afraid and rightfully so. I didn't get enough numbing medication; it was very brutal to me. It's been years ago and that set that fear up.

Now, this office is awesome. I talk to my friends about him. Being a senior citizen, we have to kind of dig our way through the best plan for us and this has been great. My husband, he's coming now and we're getting done what we need to have done. They're just a great group of people. I would not be comfortable anywhere else.

Allen on being able to eat again thanks to implant-supported dentures

I've always had gum problems, so my teeth were just, they were just fighting for years. So McNulty and Paul Tony, a periodontist who works with Ryan and that they worked with for 25 years, to try to save my teeth. It worked for a couple of decades but as time went on, I needed more and more replacements. Brian did a big job on me around 2000 and then he did this last big job on me this year. I don't mind smiling. I don't mind laughing with a joke. I don't have to do this. I went through a couple of periods there where I was having a hard time even eating a hot dog, okay? But now, nothing holds me back. Brian strikes me as being entirely competent and he's just a pleasant guy to deal with, pleasant guy to do business with. He makes me comfortable.

Joyce on getting her dentures fixed and having a great smile

Well, first year—I think this is my third year, maybe going on four—the first year I came in, I had to have a couple of teeth looked at. I think he did maybe, a filling, you know, filed something down. Eventually, I had to have a new top portion, and they worked with me. I was never without teeth for any length of time, and when they said they have it ready, it was ready. Whatever they said they were going to do, they did.

So, eventually, I had to have a whole plate on top. I always sucked my thumb so my teeth protruded. And then, of course, not going to the dentist, there was always something wrong. Then I had gaps, but now, I am so blessed because I can smile for the first time in my life and I feel good about smiling. I love to smile.

Andy on bringing his daughter to Dr. McNulty after a dental emergency

About three years ago, my daughter was in school up at Appalachian and took a fall on the ice on the weekend. Landed on her mouth, landed on her teeth, fractured a couple of her front teeth. Which at 20 years old, your life as a woman, if you've got bad looking teeth, that's a bad thing.

We called the office on the weekend. We did get a call back on the weekend. They said, “Bring her in first thing on Monday.” Well, she was up in Boone, North Carolina, but she came home on Sunday, was here for the first visit, first appointment that they had on Monday morning. Dr. McNulty saw her that day. He completely repaired her broken front teeth, made them look good as new. And my daughter walked out with a big smile on her face because her image was exactly as if she'd never taken the fall. She was so happy.

Because when she came home, she was in tears because she had a horrible looking mouth. He fixed it completely. She came back for a follow up visit, touch it up, and she was just amazed at the professionalism and how it looked like new, as if she'd never had broken her front teeth. That's the reason we come back to this practice.

Andy on using a dental crown to repair a fractured tooth

Well, I came in for an office visit, just for a cleaning, and on that cleaning they do X-rays. And on the X-ray, they noticed that I had a crack in one of my molars. That particular tooth had a filling in it from way back when, and they attributed that to the fact that it may have caused some of the fracture in the tooth at the time.

I wasn't aware of it, I wasn't in any pain, but they diagnosed it as a fracture and it's something we need to look into. So at that point in time they said, "Here's what we think we probably ought to do. We want to review that with you,” which they did. Told me what the outcomes would be, what the expense would be, and what could I expect during both the procedure, and after the procedure was over.

I came in to have the crown done. We came in, Dr. Dancausse did the work up on it. We put in a temporary crown, which I had for about four or five weeks, then I scheduled another appointment. Came back in, and had the actual permanent crown put on. It fit very nicely, felt very comfortable. He spent a lot of time with me to make sure that it was a good—I still had a good bite, it fit well, and I was very comfortable and not in any pain. So, it was great. I mean, the office, as always, was very concerned about, "Hey, is everything good? Are you happy?" And as always, again, they came back to me and said, "Hey, if there are any issues, don't hesitate to call me. I'm available at any time."

I really like that in a dentist because that's what you want. You want to know that they care about you and they're always available to help you.

Ami on breaking her tooth before an appointment and overcoming her dental anxiety

I kind of had a bad experience with another local dentist, just a high turnover rate, not to mention it was very far for my husband and I to drive. I was referred to this office through my boss. Actually, I'm sorry, my husband's boss, who just has been coming here for years and loved it. We came here, both my husband and I. We see, actually, both dentists. I see one, he sees the other. I just knew the first time I was here that I was in the right place. Very thankful and very excited that I finally found somebody that was a perfect fit.

The night before my first appointment, which was just supposed to be a, "Hello, I'm Amy and I'm new," my tooth broke. It wasn't on anything I ate, it was just a, "Oh great, my tooth broke." It happened to be the day before, I called them and they said, "Hey, we'll set time aside for you. If you need any work done, we could possibly do it that very next day." I'm not going to lie, I don't love going to the dentist if it's anything other than, "Let's clean your teeth and get you out of here."

Real deal work, unfortunately, sometimes it happens, whether, like I said, I didn't even do anything to break that tooth, it just broke. Sometimes it happens. If and when something like that happens, you want to be in good hands. You want to be with somebody who's not only knowledgeable, but you want a clean office, you want great staff, you want people that care about you. When I'm here, even though it's only been a few times, I get the impression and I actually, it's not even an impression, I know that I'm in good hands. I know that they're going to do the best for what's in my best interest. They're not out to make a bunch of money, they're out to help me as a patient. That's important to me.

One of the issues that I had with a prior dentist, without mentioning any names, it's just basically cleanliness and just the feeling of—that I was just kind of a number. That, when I came here, I noticed that that was not the case at all. They are out to give you the best smile that you can possibly have and by having that, it boosts your confidence level and just, your whole life is better when your smile is confident. I cannot be more thankful to find this office.

Alan on replacing an old filling with a crown and trusting Dr. McNulty and staff

I've had a lot of dental work in my time, from the past. I think fillings, when you get to a certain size, after a period of years, they begin to crumble. Sometimes they can be replaced. If they're big enough, sometimes you just have to crown the tooth and move on with life. Having dental work's not fun for anyone but Dr. McNulty's really good at the numbing process, making it ... this isn't the pleasant part of dentistry, but getting the shots, he's just really, really good at it and that matters. It matters. It's a matter of coming in, getting it done, and then moving on.

I very much trust them. If Dr. McNulty recommends something, it's something I know I need to get done. I wasn't blessed with the best quality teeth, maybe. I don't know if that's what you say but, like I said, I've had a fair amount of work in the past before coming here. Just cavities as kids and all that. I've had to deal with that through life. Again, I don't know, 16, 17 years, something like that, I've been coming here. They've taken very good care of me and I trust them with whatever they say needs to be done.
